Water Remains in Focus of Bled Film Festival

Apriori World has taken the strategic consultancy positioning Bled Film Festival for the next 3 years.

The lakeside town of Bled will host the second edition of the namesake eco film festival between 16 and 20 June. While its theme remains water, the competition programmes of feature and documentary films will be expanded with a section of youth films.

Presiding over the honorary board of the Bled Film Festival (BFF), the internationally acclaimed Croatian-born actor Rade Šerbedžija told Thursday's presentation in Ljubljana the goal was to make the eco project a traditional event with activists from across Slovenia joining in.

One of a few eco film festivals in the world, the BFF focuses on the preservation and management of water resources. The programme is still in the making, but festival co-funder Daniel Utješanović said the youth section included this year sought to promote culture and ecology also among youngsters.

Bled will again host a meeting of the European Film Academy (EFA) after its members already met at the Alpine town last year. Festival producer Dunja Klemenc said that it was exceptional for EFA members to meet twice at the same location.

The festival has established cooperation with water.org, a globally active foundation that secures people access to drinking water and sanitation solutions. Funds for the organisation will be raised at a golf tournament to be held at the conclusion of the festival, another festival co-funder, Marko Gajić, said.

Held under the honorary sponsorship of President Borut Pahor, the festival is partnered with the IEDC Bled School of Management, which will host an academic conference on water as a human right, responsibility and opportunity ahead of the festival on 16 June.

According to the school official Alenka Nedelko, the conference will feature well-known experts from Slovenia and abroad, including climatologist Lučka Kajfež Bogataj and human rights activist Tomo Križnar, best known for his campaigning for the Nuba peoples.
